Scratch Marks on Skin While Sleeping

Have you ever noticed that your bed sheets have marks on them, or that your pillowcase has marks on it as well? Even though many people sleep in comforters, duvets, or blankets, these items can also leave evidence of its use around the house.

Scratching is the process of picking at the skin. It occurs from our earliest days, since our skin does not naturally have a protective layer like our nails, ears, or hair. Scratching is the source of fingernail and toenail abnormalities, cuts, abrasions, cuts, and scrapes.

Scratching has many causes. Scratches may be from furniture, floors, or even other people, and can take place anywhere. It is something that we do that leaves mark patterns on the skin. Pillowcases and sheets may be the biggest offenders when it comes to marks left on the skin while sleeping. The pillows we use can pick up creases and folds on the skin, and these creases and folds can become lumps that develop into rashes.



Children often pick at their own bodies with their hands, causing the marks to develop into the various kinds of wounds we see on our skin. While children do not have the knowledge to stop their self-injurious behavior at an early age, they may try and hide their marks and play a game of "hide the warts."

For this reason, a mattress liner is recommended to help shield against any scratches from occurring. Most liners are waterproof and are specifically made to make beds and other household furniture stain free and will not leave marks on the skin while sleeping.

Pillowcases are no different. As we use these items on a daily basis, they will develop a variety of marks that could lead to various types of skin diseases such as psoriasis. Since most people sleep in bed in a warm environment, we see marks left on the skin.
